Mary Johnson Obituary

Mary Johnson

September 11, 2025

SALEM, NY - Mary Johnson, 80, passed away on September 11, 2025, at the Granville Center Nursing Home after a long fight with debilitating arthritis.

Mary was a graduate of Schuylerville High School, the class of 1967. She graduated from St. Peter's Hospital Registered Nursing Program in Albany, NY. Mary spent many years of dedicated service at the Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, NY. After the closure of the hospital, she continued her nursing career at other various facilities and hospitals. She finally retired in 2008 while working at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY.

On December 12, 1970, Mary married her loving husband, Richard Johnson, in Schuylerville. They spent almost 55 years together. Having three children and spending their many years in Cossayuna, where she lovingly raised her family, Darya "Muffy", Bobby, and many pets.

Mary was always very supportive of Darya "Muffy" and Bobby with all their sports and activities throughout the years. Mary was a wonderful mom.

She enjoyed watching sports on ESPN. Mary followed the NY Yankees and NY Knicks. She loved all animals and especially loved the menagerie of pets at home. Mary also enjoyed their family camp in Summit Lake in Argyle, NY. Many summers were spent at camp. She liked collecting recipe books and watching the Food Network. Mary loved to read, and mystery novels were her favorite.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Judge John L. and Frances (Quinn) Ostrander; brother, Vibert Ostrander; in-laws, Wesley and Jean Johnson; nephews, Pat Casey and Tristan Howard; Aunt Margie (Quinn) and Uncle Donald Glastetter and Aunt Catherine (Ostrander) and Uncle Van Wyck Conlee; brother-in-law, John Lonardo; infant son, Billy, and son, Bobby.

Survivors include her husband, Rick and daughter, Darya "Muffy" of Cossayuna; sisters, Gail and Paul Casey, Lauretta Ostrander; sister-in-law, El Piatz; sister-in-law, Donna Bracken; brother-in-law, Jim and Robin Hill Lonardo; cousin, Becky and David Howard; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the nursing and CNI staff for their loving care at Granville Center Nursing Home. We would also like to thank Dr. Ashley Watson and Nurse Kristie Ellis at the Greenwich Medical Center for many years of dedicated and loving care.

At Mary's request, there will be no calling hours. Service and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Cossayuna Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., 21 Bunker Hill Road, Cossayuna, NY 12823 or the Salem's Community Cats, P.O. Box 402, Salem NY 12865.
