The world lost a truly special soul on Monday, July 28, 2025, when Terry Eugene Barrett Jr., 47, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, passed away. His absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Terry was born on March 8, 1978, in Moline, Ill., to Mary (Garvey) and Terry Barrett Sr. He began working at KONE in 2001 and officially joined the elevator trade in 2005. Over the course of 24 years, he built a career he was proud of, working as an elevator service mechanic. Terry took great pride in his craft and formed lasting friendships with his coworkers, many of whom became like family.
Terry was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished brother, and loyal friend. He lived life with a generous heart, an adventurous spirit, and a contagious laugh that could light up any room. His quick wit and sense of humor brought joy to those around him and left lasting memories with everyone he met.
Whether he was camping under the stars, catching a NASCAR race, or planning his next trip to Florida, Terry found happiness in life's simple moments. He was happiest surrounded by those he loved, especially his children, who were his greatest pride.
He is survived by his wife, Angela; children, Lily, Hunter, and Lyla Barrett; stepdaughter, Kallista Peterson; sisters, Tracey (Dave) Babula and Trisha (Tony) Themas; nephews, Brodee Wakeland, Nick Babula, Jaxon Themas, and Lincoln Themas; and niece, Samantha Babula.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Terry Barrett Sr.
Per Terry's wishes, no visitation will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, September 13, from 12 to 3 p.m., at the Milan American Legion.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to help support Terry's children, Lily, Hunter, and Lyla, as they navigate this unimaginable loss. Contributions can be made to the memorial fund established in their honor; full details will be available at the Celebration of Life service.
