Shirley Husen Obituary

Shirley Husen

July 27, 1933 - July 10, 2025

Shirley A. Husen, age 91, of Walcott, Iowa, formerly of Dixon, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Better Living of Walcott. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the Dixon American Legion immediately following the funeral service. Private burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Shirley was born on July 27, 1933, the daughter of Arthur and Florence (Bicknese) Burrichter. She graduated from Wheatland High School with the Class of 1951. Shirley married Roy Husen on February 15, 1953, in Wheatland. Roy passed away on June 30, 2022.

Shirley was a devoted homemaker whose warmth and creativity touched everyone who knew her. Shirley also worked as a talented seamstress, often sharing her skills with others. A gifted quilter and crocheter, Shirley created quilts stitched with love for each of her grandchildren. Her hands were rarely still, you would often find her piecing together a jigsaw puzzle or completing a crossword. She found joy in the little things: family gatherings, and the occasional Bud Light shared with loved ones and friends.

Shirley was also a hardworking partner on the farm, working alongside her husband and children. Together, they were proud members of the Deer Valley Collectors, and in 2000, their dedication was honored when their tractor was featured at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion. She cherished time with her grandchildren, whether playing games, laughing over meals, or simply enjoying each other's company. Shirley's legacy is one of love, hard work, laughter, and creativity.

Shirley will be dearly missed by her two children, Bruce Husen of Hazelwood, Mo., and Gale (James) Rosenbalm of Geneseo, Ill.; three grandchildren, Michele (Brian) Lewis, Paul (Ashley) Cirricione, and Grant Husen; five great-grandchildren, Brendan, Austyn, Henley, Rilynn, and Paxon; and one brother, Jerry Burrichter.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Roy.
