Thomas Moore Obituary
Thomas Arthur Moore
April 15, 1956 - July 20, 2025
Thomas Arthur Moore, 69, known to some as "Archie," passed away on July 20, 2025, in Iowa City due to complications following arterial surgery.
Born on April 15, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa, to Thomas "Junior" and Ellen "Codine" (Goldsberry) Moore, Thomas's early years were spent in Eldridge, Missouri, where he began his education in a one-room schoolhouse alongside his older brother, George. Following his family's move to Princeton, Iowa, he attended North Scott High School and later took classes in engineering and manufacturing at Scott Community College.
Thomas dedicated 42 years of his life as a machinist specialist, making life support system parts for airplanes. In retirement, he focused his energy on real estate and stock market investments. Although not wealthy himself, Thomas was committed to giving what he had to help others; on numerous occasions, he gave substantially to and provided shelter for those going through rough times; whether in his yard, in one of his rental properties, or even giving up his own home to families in need with young children.
Thomas was a dedicated father and grandfather; from teaching his children how to fish, play guitar, or how to fix a car, he worked hard to ensure they were prepared for adulthood, yet was always there to help when needed. He had a fondness for looking at problems from unique angles, a skill he applied not only to do-it-yourself repairs on his vehicles and properties, but also to his own healthcare, well-being, and spiritual practice. The loss of his oldest daughter, Rachael, to leukemia in 1995 affected him deeply, leading him to develop an earnest faith in Jesus Christ. In his later years, he recorded an album of gospel rock music, "Believe" (2023), where he combined his lifelong love of music and philosophy on faith and giving. Thomas also found immense joy in exploring thrift stores and garage sales, where he was always on the lookout for a hidden gem. His aspiration was to open his own antique store, and he had diligently built up a substantial collection of items in anticipation of fulfilling this dream.
Thomas is survived by his four children: Terrie Spring of Princeton, Iowa; Thomas Justin (Flannery) Moore of Northglenn, Colorado; Skylar (Sidhartha) Moore of Maplewood, New Jersey; and Cheyenne (Yunseo) Moore of Suwon, South Korea; his former wife, Carolyn (Spring) Moore; and his siblings, George (Sandra) Moore and Lavinna Kuberski. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Aurora and Grant Dolan, and Miranda, Thomas, Corin, and Walden Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Rachael; his siblings James Moore, Selina Kay Stover, and Rhonda Wilson; his niece Amy Burns; and his grandniece Everlee Dusenberry.
Funeral services will be held on September 7th at Boll's Community Center in Princeton, IA. A visitation will begin at 2 p.m., with a memorial service scheduled for 3 p.m. A celebration of life will take place immediately following, and all who knew him are invited to attend.
