David Morgan Obituary

David (Dave) Charles Morgan,Jr., born July 28th, 1952, in Hastings, Nebraska, passed away on July 19th, 2025, in Greeley, Colorado due to complications from a stroke. Dave was a graduate of Longmont High School Class of 1972. He married Sophie Dominick Echeverria of Longmont in 1975. Together they had four children, Joseph (Terra) Morgan, Kelley (Doug) Preston, Peter (Jenni) Morgan, and John (Afton) Morgan as well as 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is survived by all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as his sister Diane (Mike) Kirchhoff, brothers Mike (Lorraine) Morgan, Dan Morgan, and Rich (Sherise) Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Margaret Morgan.

Dave was a proud sheep man and spent as much time as possible at his ranch in Wyoming. His favorite hobbies were fixing fences, docking lambs, herding sheep, and getting out of bed at 2am to unload a truck of lambs. He was well respected in the ranching and agricultural community for his dedication and work ethic as he was known to outwork men half his age on a regular basis. He also went by a few nicknames, Captain Dave, likely for his enjoyment of a drink, and for his ability to "inspire" people to work harder; and Desperado, for his love of the Eagles song Desperado and its strikingly accurate description of him. He was also known as Popi to his grandchildren.

Dave took his children to the ranch and feedlot often and taught them the value of hard work and of the agricultural industry, and those are some of their fondest memories of him.

He spent the last year of his life at a retirement community in Greeley where he became known as the sharp dressing cowboy. He took pride in his appearance and made sure he was properly dressed for the daily activities, nice jeans, and a button-up shirt, no matter what the occasion. He was handsome, funny, and charming (when he wanted to be) to the end.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Dave on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00am. Join family and friends to fondly remember Dave at The Legacy Event Center, located at 124 1st Street, in Eaton, Colorado.
