Deirdre M. Dunne, age 80, of Watertown, entered into the gates of Heaven on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at The Ivy in Watertown.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 31, 1944, Deirdre was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Toner) Dunne. Raised in Philadelphia, she discovered her passion for special education at a young age while helping care for her brother with special needs. What many would consider a challenging career came naturally to Deirdre. With unmatched patience and a heart full of compassion, she spent many years dedicated to her students in the New Jersey school system, never seeing her work as difficult-just deeply meaningful.
Deirdre had a lifelong appreciation for the arts. She found joy in painting and had a deep respect for all forms of artistic expression. Music was always playing in her life, and she especially loved dancing-often picking up new steps just by watching others. Though she never considered cooking her forte, her talents were abundant in many other areas. A woman of strong faith, Deirdre was also a devout Catholic.
She leaves behind her loving children, Danielle Greco and her husband Peter of Middlebury, and Matthew Hiebsch and his significant other Alina Alter of Stowe, VT. She is also survived by her sister, Sheila Dunne of Delaware; her beloved grandchildren, Madison Greco, Miles Hiebsch, Avi Alter, and Isla Alter; as well as extended family and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Arrangements: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John of the Cross Church, the Roman Catholic Parish of Middlebury and Southbury, located at 1263 West Street, Middlebury. Burial will follow at Lake Elise Cemetery in Middlebury. There will be no calling hours. All are kindly asked to meet directly at the church Tuesday morning. Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, has been entrusted with Deirdre's funeral arrangements.
