Charlie S. Whetstone, 56, of Akron, passed away Jan. 14, 2025, in his hometown.
Born Sept. 2, 1968, in Akron, Charlie was a resident of the community he held dear. He attended Tippecanoe Valley and went on to build a life grounded in hard work and a deep passion for automobiles.
Charlie's love for cars led him to establish his own business, Charlie's Auto Repairs. Under his leadership, the shop earned a reputation for quality workmanship and dependable service. His dedication to excellence made Charlie's Auto Repair a trusted name throughout the area. In addition to running his own business, Charlie also worked alongside his brother Steve Shoemaker at Owasso Auto Care. Their shared expertise left a lasting impression on customers and colleagues alike.
Outside of work, Charlie found joy and freedom riding his Harley Davidson. Whether cruising through the country roads or working under the hood of a car, he approached life with authenticity and purpose.
Charlie is survived by his son Andy Curry and wife Erin; sisters Jeannie Grim and Kim Timmons; brothers Steve Shoemaker and Bob Whetstone and wife Jackie; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry forward his memory.
He was preceded in death by his Mother LouAnn Whetstone, stepfather Marvin Whetstone, nephew Levi H. Garret, grandparents Robert and Ester Nicodemus, and Charlie's beloved K-9 companion, 'Elvis"
A celebration of life for Charlie "Whetstone" will be Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 12 p.m. at 2676 S. 1000 East, Akron, IN 46910. Guests are welcome to bring a covered dish if they wish. Please bring a lawn chair and beverage of your choice.
Charlie leaves behind a legacy built not only on craftsmanship but also on loyalty to family and kindness to others. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
