Martha McAllister Obituary

Martha McAllister
March 13, 1930 - September 25, 2022
Martha Robertson McAllister passed from this life in Santa Rosa on September 25, 2022. She was born on March 13, 1930, in Mesa, Arizona to parents John and Leila Robertson. She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson where she studied anthropology and played violin in the Tucson Symphony. Her junior year, she married Dan McAllister, a fellow student.
After their graduation, Dan's engineering career brought them first to Pittsburgh, PA and then to the Bay Area. They raised three children, with Martha chiefly at the helm.
Our mother will be remembered for her devotion to family. She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always interested in what was going on in our lives. Her love and care for our father was epic during their lives together, but particularly as she shepherded him through his long journey with Alzheimer's.
Her interests included a passion for classical music and opera, and her competitive streak made her a fierce card player. Her sports interests included playing golf, and in later years, she was an enthusiastic San Francisco Giants fan. Proud of her Southwest roots, she loved the beauty of the desert and Native American culture.
Martha is survived by her children, Dan McAllister (Debbie), Stephanie McAllister (Roger Jungerman) and John McAllister (Sheila), and her grandchildren Justin McAllister, Jessica Kane, Aeryn Jungerman, and Erin Stepka. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband Dan, and brothers Charles and John Robertson and her sister Peggy O'Connor.
She is greatly missed, and we are inspired by memories of her life, and her grace and resilience during her extended health issues. Thanks and gratitude are deeply felt for the Spring Lake Village staff for their compassionate care of our mother.
A memorial service will be held on October 29, 2022, at 1 pm at Spring Lake Village Chapel, Santa Rosa. Reception to follow.
