Robert Grussenmeyer Obituary
Robert Edward Grussenmeyer, Jr.
June 13, 1953 - June 20, 2025
Bothell, Washington - Robert "Bob" Edward Grussenmeyer, Jr. (age 72), a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on June 20, 2025, in Washington State, surrounded by his children. At his death he was a resident of Bothell, Washington, but he was a long-time resident of Sacramento.
Bob was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1953, the son of Robert Edward Grussenmeyer, Sr. (1922-1994) of Williams, California, and Patricia Rosemurt (Sullivan) Grussenmeyer (1926-2008) of Ukiah, California. Because Bob's father was an FBI agent, his family moved around when he was young. Bob spent his early childhood in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, and then Ukiah, California, before finally settling in Sacramento.
Bob graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento in 1971. He began college at St. Mary's College of California in Moraga before transferring to the University of San Francisco, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Economics.
He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Air Traffic Controller for over 23 years, taking his first position in Fairbanks, Alaska, in the early 1980s. He lived in Fairbanks and then in Anchorage with his young family before moving back to Sacramento in the late 1980s. When he returned, he worked in Stockton and then Mather, California, until his retirement in 2006. He received multiple letters of commendation and appreciation for his service over the years.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses: daughter Elizabeth Grussenmeyer Stone (son-in-law Alec Charles Stone); son William Daniel Grussenmeyer (daughter-in-law Allison (Ehresman) Grussenmeyer), son David Robert Grussenmeyer (daughter-in-law Traci (Pochardt) Grussenmeyer), and son Christopher Michael Grussenmeyer.
He is survived by his three grandchildren: Hunter Converse Stone, Charles Robert Stone, and Sadie Gray Grussenmeyer.
He is survived by his sisters Janet (Grussenmeyer) Brown (brother-in-law Kam), Beth Grussenmeyer, and Christina (Grussenmeyer) Sciocchetti (brother-in-law John). He was predeceased by his sister Karen Grussenmeyer (1951-2022). He is also survived by his niece Jennifer (Brown) Angelopoulos and her husband Tom Angelopoulos, nephew Dominic Sciocchetti, and his great nephew Lucas Angelopoulos. Sadly, he was predeceased by his great niece Stella Angelopoulos (2018-2025).
Bob was deeply loved by his family and friends, especially by his children. He was a dedicated father, known for his sharp wit and humor. He had a big personality. His voice and laugh would bellow through the house and shake the walls. He was a teller of stories, often tall tales. His favorite time of the year was Thanksgiving, when his family would get together around the dining table, break bread, and tell stories. He will be forever missed and remembered with love.
A private celebration of life will be held by his family. He was cremated according to his wishes. Part of his ashes will be buried with his parents in Williams, California, at Williams Cemetery, on August 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The rest of his ashes will be spread in Alaska by his children.
