John Bedont Obituary

John "Jack" Paul Attilio Bedont

Oct 20, 1984 - May 6, 2025

John Paul Attilio Bedont, lovingly known as "Jack," was born on October 20, 1984, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lori Martinez Bedont and Richard Bedont.

He is survived by his father Richard Bedont (Kate); sister, Emily Miller (Reed); his adored niece and nephews-Addy, Nico, and Benny Miller; mother's sisters Connie Planet (Mike) and Stella Canzano (Mike); father's sisters Vicki Box (Jack), Bobbie Hunnicutt, Nancy Waldeck (Fred), and Cindy Spaeth; and many, many cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Lori, his grandparents Claudio & Cordelia Martinez, and Attilio & Henrietta Bedont, and his cherished childhood cat, Sebastian.

Jack was a man of many talents, ambitious drive, and an even bigger heart. He attended J.E. Cosgriff Memorial Catholic School and Judge Memorial Catholic High School, where he made lifelong friends and mischief in equal measure. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in finance from Westminster University and later completed his MBA at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. He was a proud member of Beta Theta Phi and formed lasting bonds with his "Beta Brothers," who remained close to him throughout his life.

His career in finance spanned nearly two decades across Salt Lake City, Nashville, New Jersey, and Charlotte with leading financial institutions. Wherever work took him, Jack brought his passions-a fervent love for playing basketball, a house with ESPN always on, diehard support for the Chiefs and the Utes, lifelong admiration for Michael Jordan, and a dedication to golf. He spent hours on the course, equally committed to perfecting his swing and delivering the perfect joke to keep his foursome laughing through all 18 holes.

Above all his qualities, Jack will be remembered as a world-class son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend-loyal, hilarious, and endlessly generous. He blurred the lines between friends and family. He maintained deep, decades-long friendships and would truly give you the shirt off his back (and then roast you for needing it). Despite busy lives and miles of separation, Jack made a point to keep a connection with family and always conveyed his love. His greatest pride was in being a brother to Emily and an "Uncle Jack-ster" & godfather to Addy, Nico, and Benny.

Jack's life came to a close in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was surrounded by loved ones as he passed, wrapped in the kind of love he gave so freely in life. We find comfort knowing he's found peace, and like to imagine he's already found the perfect fairway in that eternal place we all hope for-his drives straight, his putts true, and that beautiful grin ever-present. We are grateful to have accompanied him for so many years and will miss his quiet strength, his thoughtful manner, and the lasting impressions he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A funeral mass and celebration of Jack's life will be held in Salt Lake City for family and friends. Details can be found at www.CelebrateJack.com as they become available.

Lori and my mom, Nancy, met while she was pregnant with Jack and my mom was pregnant with my sister, Renya. I've known Jack since he was born, and I got the privilege of growing up with him and his sister, Emily. Lori was like an aunt to me and would encourage me to be a better person when I needed someone else besides my mom to tell me those things. Losing Jack is like losing Lori all over again, and the sting is extra deep this time. I feel for his family, friends, coworkers, and, most of all, Emily and her beautiful family. I can only assume that Lori and Jack needed to become angels to help watch over them with extra love.

Jack, I always thought I would reciprocate the wedding toast you gave me back in '07. I'll guess I have to do it when I see you on the other side:) Until then, I love you and thank you for your love, your humor, your friendship, and for being a great friend to my sis. Shed so many tears.. xo Ka

I am so saddened to hear of Jack’s passing. I look back so fondly on our time as co-workers, and I wish I could tell him how much of a positive impact he had on my confidence in the workplace and my professional development. Jack and the Bedont family will be in my prayers. Rest in peace, friend.

It's a gift to be able to say you've known someone for 40 years (especially when you're only 40 years old).
Jack - you will forever be my rock, and now you are my Angel. I will continue to kiss the sky every day - keep swinging them back to me.
I love you. I love you. I love you.

I went to cosgriff and judge with Jack. When we were young, maybe 5th grade, he complimented something I drew. I wasn´t cool at all so the boys weren´t necessarily nice to me, but jack was. That compliment left a lasting impression on me. It was really nice.
