Margene Sagers Obituary

Margene Orr Sagers

1937 ~ 2025

Grantsville, UT-Margene Orr Sagers, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Grantsville, Utah. Born on November 3, 1937, in Provo, Utah, to Charlie Glenn Orr and Velma Peterson. Margene lived a life marked by devotion to her family, a passion for all things small town country living, and a spirited personality that left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Family was at the heart of everything Margene did.

Margene married Weston Hansen in 1954 and had 5 children making their home in Sandy, Utah. Later she remarried Grant Degelbeck and they made their home in Bluewater, NM. Then later moving back to Utah to settle in Rush Valley. After 33 years of marriage Grant passed in 1991. A few years later Margene married whom she referred to as the love of her life John C Sagers.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Pamela Hansen; Brad (Vikki) Hansen; Lyle (Shelly) Hansen; and Erik (Heather) Hansen. She was also blessed with sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Margene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John C. "Jackie" Sagers, and her son Reed Hansen.

Margene had a deep love for researching family history and genealogy-a pursuit that connected her to generations past while strengthening bonds with those around her. She treasured time spent with family, especially during large gatherings filled with laughter and stories. Traveling with cousins brought her great joy, as did hunting through antique shops and yard sales in search of hidden treasures. She had a talent for finding things she knew "someone" would just love. Known for her witty sense of humor and love of practical joke gifts, many fell victim to the oddest of Christmas gifts. Perhaps most special to her were the sleepovers she would have with her grandchildren-nights filled with warmth, fun, and memories they will carry forever.

Margene dedicated several years of her life to working as a Special Ed/Needs Teacher Aid for the Tooele School District. Her work with "her kids" was not just a job-it was both rewarding and a cherished part of her life. After retiring from the school district she would spend her days helping her husband "Jackie" with the cows at the ranch in Rush Valley, UT.

Margene had a unique way of bringing smiles to those around her. Fiercely protective of those she loved, she never hesitated to speak her mind-often with candor that could be both cantankerous and endearing. You always knew where you stood with Margene-and you always knew you were loved. Margene's legacy lives on through the lives she touched-with honesty, humor, strength, and unwavering love. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

I will miss you and all the smiles you put on my face at every family event when your presence filled the room with wholesome joy.
I will miss the phone calls that I got every birthday from you even when your Alzheimer´s was at its worst.. you were always the one that would remember. That meant more to me than you will ever know grandma. I´m crying as I write this knowing it will never happen again.
I´m also happy for where you are now though. Free of suffering, having supernatural clarity with all your senses, and probably hanging out with Reed and Jesus, or perhaps one of his 12 disciples.
You lived a life above reproach, and I´ve always been in awe of your positive and joyous heart. Despite any hardship that would cripple and destroy most, you persevered relentlessly as if there wasn´t another option. All while becoming more and more eager to love those around you unconditionally. It has given me such a profound respect for the life you lived on this earth, grandma. No doubt, for countless others too.
I one day hope to find a woman half as strong and God fearing as you. Until I see you on the other side, I love you so so so much and you will be missed dearly. Thank you for all the memories <3

Your grandson, Zach.
