Mary Cox Obituary
1934 ~ 2025
Mary Patrica Cox passed May 10th after a very brief illness. She was with her children and close friends, listening to music, and tasting wine as she slipped peacefully away into the next life. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed.
Mary Pat was born September 19, 1934 in Denver, Colorado. She married Benjamin Vincent Cox on April 18, 1959 at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Bountiful, Utah. They were engaged just ten days after meeting, and their whirlwind romance led to a 54-year marriage that lasted until Ben passed away in 2013. They raised two beautiful children together.
She attended Holy Rosary Catholic Academy in Northern California and graduated from the all girls boarding school in 1952. She continued her education at Holy Cross Hospital School of Nursing, then completed her degree at Barnes School of Nurse Anesthesia. She graduated in 1957.
Mary Pat was a practicing certified registered nurse anesthetist for over 40 years. She spent many years working at Holy Cross Hospital and The Salt Lake Surgical Center. She loved her patients and the many wonderful doctors and nurses she worked with.
Mary Pat was known to light up any room with her smile. She loved to garden, read, and spend time with people she loved. She spent the last years of her life at The Sarah Daft Home surrounded by many friends. Mary Pat's kindness, generosity, and unwavering love of family will never be forgotten.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Paul), Rye Brook, NY, Stephen, Salt Lake City, grandchildren, Katie, Chloe, Julia and Sophie, brother Robert Mitchell (Kathleen), sister-in-law Louise Mitchell, brothers-in-law Jim (Pat) Cox and Richard Cox and many nieces and nephews.
Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 24th at 11 AM at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Murray, Utah. A luncheon and celebration of life will follow at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation to The American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
