Coy House Obituary

Coy "Stan" House, Jr.

May 1, 1947 - April 19, 2025

Morro Bay, California - Coy Stanford "Stan" House, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77.

Born to Coy House, Sr. and Inez House on May 1, 1947, Stan was a proud Morro Bay native and lifelong Pirate, graduating from Morro Bay High School in the class of 1965. His passion for music began early. He and his brother, Bill, started playing local gigs during high school at the Cayucos Vets Hall and the Red Rooster in Los Osos, with their devoted parents often driving them to their performances.

Stan took his music to the next level in Los Angeles during the late 1960s and 70s, performing with his brother at legendary venues such as The Palomino, Whisky A Go Go, The Troubadour, and Sundance Saloon in Calabasas. Along the way, he made many lifelong friends in the music world.

Eventually, Stan returned home to Morro Bay to raise his family, working in the maintenance department at Cuesta College and continuing his commitment to the community he loved.

He was a founding member of the Friends of the Morro Bay Fire Department, a supporter of the Morro Bay Maritime Museum, and an advocate for the Morro Bay Commercial Fishermen's Organization. It was rare to walk through town with Stan without someone stopping to say hello. He seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew him.

Stan's life was guided by one simple but powerful principle: "Family first." He cherished time with those he loved and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by them. Stan is survived by his beloved wife, Janice House; his children, Jennifer Saueressig (Paul), Shawn House, and Emily House (Lucas Grant); and his grandson, Mason Saueressig.

He will be remembered for his music, his community spirit, and the many lives he touched simply by being himself.

A celebration of Stan's life will be held at a later date in Morro Bay.

He would be happy if you made a donation in his memory to either the Friends of the Morro Bay Fire Department or the Morro Bay Maritime Museum.

I am so sorry to hear of Stan's passing. He was a very good friend in high school and he remained a good friend always. He could always make me laugh and that is such a wonderful quality. I'm thinking of his family and friends as I know they must all be grieving his loss.
