Mildred "Mickey" Rose Halter-Browne was born in Springfield, Illinois and moved with her family to San Jose, CA when she was 10 and graduated from San Jose High School in 1947. She and her late husband of 47 years, Robert O. Browne, owned and operated Cambrian Glass and Mirror Company in Campbell, CA for over 40 years while raising 3 children. Together they led a very active and outdoorsy life entailing many camping, fishing, hunting, and boating trips. Mickey was the ultimate hostess and had a knack for making everyone feel welcome in her home. She and Bob hosted many parties which are remembered fondly by many to this day. She also enjoyed traveling the country with her family and friends. Bob and Mickey retired in 1995 and moved to Redding, CA to be near their son's family and some dear friends.
After she was widowed in 1997 she moved to Austin, TX for 5 years to live with her youngest daughter's family, to help raise her granddaughter. In 2002, when her daughter's family moved from TX to CA she moved back to Redding, where she was very active in her community, mentoring first grade readers at a local elementary school and volunteering at her local church. Mickey began having health problems and moved to Santa Cruz County to spend her final months with her youngest daughter. She passed peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2016.
She is survived by her children Pennie and Michael Simuro, Jeff and Lin Browne, and Cindy and Rick Garay, her grandchildren Shawn and Casey Browne, Matthew, Nathan, and Louis Simuro, and Kathryn Garay, her great grandchildren Joseph and Levi Browne, and Michael and Emma Simuro, her sister Audrey Johansson and by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church at 101 Riverside Ave, Ben Lomond, at 11am on April 12th. Burial service to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose at 2:30pm. The family requests donations be made to St. Andrews Church in lieu of flowers.
