Kathryn R. Metzger
Born: January 3, 1929 in Marshall County, IL
Died: June 30, 2025 in Dunlap, IL
Dunlap - Kathryn R. Metzger, 96, of Dunlap, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Arc of Chillicothe. Born to Frank and Bertha (Wheeler) Stewart on January 3, 1929, in Marshall County, IL. She married Edwin Metzger on March 27, 1948. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2011. They were married 63 years. Also deceased are one daughter, Donna Marie; two sons, Gary Lee and David Alan; her parents; two sisters; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Janet, who was known as the caretaker by family and friends. Janet would take Kathryn to doctor and hair appointments, took care of her grocery shopping, and would make sure her flowerbeds were in tip-top shape.
She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie (Steve) Swanstrom of Morrison; three grandsons, Andrew (Monica) Swanstrom of Morrison, Scott (Brittany) Swanstrom of Macon, MO, and Cory (Lauren) Swanstrom of Leicester, NC; and six great-grandchildren, Taylor and Katelyn Swanstrom, Abigail, Jaxson, and Wyatt Swanstrom, and Carter Swanstrom with a brother on the way; one son, Jim (late wife Janet) Metzger of Dunlap; two granddaughters, Angela (Eric Gauwitz) Patterson of Dunlap, and Stacy (Justin) Archer of Jerseyville; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Patterson and Allie Winters; one brother-in-law, Willard Metzger of Mossville; and many nieces and nephews.
Kathryn helped farm alongside her husband until retiring in 1980. She belonged to the Peoria County Farm Bureau. Over the years, Kathryn and Ed went to farm sales, antique tractor shows, and tractor pulls. They enjoyed watching their son, Jim, and granddaughter, Stacy, at the tractor pulls. Kathryn enjoyed gardening and her beautiful flowers, alongside with time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Her graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025, in Prospect Cemetery in Dunlap. Rev. David Pyell will officiate. Haskell Funeral & Cremation Services in Princeville is assisting with arrangements.
Memorial contributions can be made to Dunlap Fire and Rescue. The family would like to personally thank the Dunlap Fire and Rescue for their excellent response and compassion when called to assist Kathryn over the past few years.
