Billy Halcomb Obituary
On the beautiful spring morning of March 29, 2025, Billy Ben Halcomb passed away peacefully at the age of 94 due to natural causes at Baptist Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. In his final days, he was surrounded by his loving family, who provided comfort and support during his last moments.
Billy was born on December 18, 1930, in Franklin, KY, to Gladys Halcomb and William Joseph Halcomb. He was married to Daphne Sikes Halcomb, with whom he shared a life filled with love and devotion for many years.
Billy is survived by his daughter, Robbie Lynn Leech, and her husband, Terry Leech. He had two granddaughters, Kathryn Leech Vazquez, married to Jorge Vazquez, and Kelly Leech Ritchie, married to Dave Ritchie. He was a proud great-grandfather to five beloved great-grandchildren: Victor, Christian, William, Emerson, and Violet. His family was his greatest joy, especially his great-grandchildren, who held a very special place in his heart.
Known for his hard work and Billy gained a reputation in the construction world as a skilled bulldozer operator, often called in on more advanced projects. He worked for Gaines Home Building and Construction in Hendersonville, TN, and later with Halcomb Brother's Construction. Some of his most significant achievements included clearing the path for I-64 in West Virginia and working on the digging project for Barren River Lake. Billy was also a talented tobacco auctioneer.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Billy served his country in the National Guard during World War II. Billy was also commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.
Billy had many passions in life, including his deep love for Kentucky Basketball, his beloved 1996 Toyota T-100 with 400,000 miles, and his appreciation for nature, particularly bluebirds. He was also known for his dedication to speed walking and his fondness for a good lemon pie, a breakfast made to order, and spending time with his beloved family.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Shannon Funeral Home, 1124 Main Street, Shelbyville, KY 40065, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Baptist Health Foundation in Billy's honor.
Billy Ben Halcomb will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
