Catherine Ward

Catherine Wright Ward passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025. She was born in Paris, Texas on October 26, 1928. Catherine was valedictorian of her Paris High School graduating class in 1946. After moving to California, she attended City College of San Francisco. She qualified to become a clinical laboratory technician and subsequently worked at the San Francisco Veteran's Hospital. After raising three children, Catherine became the accountant for the medical practice of Drs. Hopper, Persike and Sarconi in San Mateo for many years, which later included Dr. Beatty Ramsay.
Catherine was a devoted and long-time member and volunteer of Saint Dunstan Parish and School in Millbrae. She was a member and treasurer of the San Mateo County Saint Vincent De Paul Society. In 2002, she and her husband, Jack, received the Ozanam Award from the Society. She also volunteered at the Mercy Center in Burlingame.
Catherine was a loving wife to John (Jack) Ward for 63 years; mother to Dennis (Kathy), Theresa, and Patrick Ward; grandmother to Linda Ward (Bishop Ross) and Cameron Ward; and great grandmother to Dominick, Damion, Kiara and Kayne Ross. She is survived by cousin's Marti McKinney Riley (Michael), Kenneth Wayne Johnson Sr. (Angela), and Kate Moss Hurst (Noel); numerous nieces and nephews: Walter James Selby III (Penny), Cynthia Dugan, Cathryn Selby (Henry Taylor), Paul Selby (Kimberly), Paul Phalen (Kathy), Mark Ward (Debbie), and Patricia Ward; great nieces and nephews: Kevin Selby (Emily), Kimberly Selby, Walter Selby IV, Stephen Selby (Jordan) and Evan Taylor. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack; her parents, Malvin and Ethel Wright; her sister, Dorothy Selby Moulton; brother-in-law Walter Selby II; her nephew, Phillip Selby; and her cousin Mary Moss Oliver.
The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the Magnolia of Millbrae, Geraldine Miravate and Josefina Miranda for their exceptional care during her residency at the Magnolia of Millbrae; and to Pacific Care Home and Sutter Hospice who provided her with loving and respectful care until the end.
Visitation will begin on Monday June 23 at Chapel of the Highlands in Millbrae from
4:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by the Rosary at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 24 at 11:00 am at Saint Dunstan Catholic Church in Millbrae. There will be a reception following at the Sixteen Mile House, 448 Broadway in Millbrae. Interment will be at 2:30 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
