WAPAKONETA - Betty L. (Sparks) Barhorst, 81, of Wapakoneta, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 10, 2025. She passed away peacefully, with her family and loved ones by her side at Lima Memorial Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease.
She was born July 3, 1944, in Bell County, Kentucky to the late Henry M. Spark and Patty J. (Davis) Sparks. On April 9, 1966, she married Russell L. Barhorst who preceded her in death on September 28, 1984.
Betty retired from The Auglaize Group Home and after retirement she spent many years as a Hospice Care Provider. She was a member of the Cridersville Independent Baptist Church. She loved anything and everything Christmas, making jewelry, doing word searches, random roadtrips, watching soap operas, feeding her birds and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three daughters: Robin (Randy) Garee of Wapakoneta, Melissa Baker of Lima and Gretchen (Ken) Kinkead of Sidney; four siblings Ruby & JB Powers, Viola Powers, Hughie (Geraldine) Sparks and Mary Davis all of Sidney; her eight grandchildren Ciara Garee of Elida, Skylar (Haley) Bower of Wapakoneta, Amber (Brian) Jackson of Wapakoneta, Katelynn (Amanda) Paul of Troy, Bob (Tayla) Paul of Bradford, Cameron (Savannah) Baker of Lima, Kari Paul (Jim Hicks) of Lockington, Ashton (Kalian) Baker of Lima and Cory (Jet) Kinkead of Maui, Hawaii; her fifteen great-grandchildren Landon Miller, Kilee and Aubree Shaffer, Logan, Liam and Layla Bower, Orion Baker, Roman and Ryder Jacobs, Graden, Myla and Abram Paul, Karleigh, Koby and Kolson Stidham.
She was preceded in death by three brothers Ancil Arnold and Harvey Sparks; two sisters Margie Kishpaugh and Ruth Ann Davis; three brothers-in-law Albert Kispaugh, JC Davis and RL Powers; two sisters-in-law Edna Sparks and Thelma Sparks.
Funeral Services will be at 7:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Chiles-Laman funeral & cremation services, Shawnee Chapel, where the family will receive friends for two hours prior from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Interment will be in a family plot in George Partin Cemetery in Frakes, KY with a graveside service beginning at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 21, 2025, conducted by Ken Kishpaugh, her nephew that the family would like to especially thank for officiating. What a wonderful woman to have known over the past 22 years. I will miss our road trips to frakes, Pineville,Cumberland gap into west Virginia where she always won a scratch off at the same little carry out. Luckiest woman I knew. Love you and miss you Betty (mom).
