Danny COZZETTO Obituary

May 26, 1955 - July 30, 2025

Phoenix - In Loving Memory of Dan Cozzetto (1955-2025). Dan Cozzetto, beloved husband, father, and lifelong football coach, passed away peacefully at the age of 70. Known for his warmth, integrity, intensity, and tireless work ethic, Dan devoted his life to the game of football and to those he held dear. Over the course of a remarkable career spanning more than four decades - including 32 years in the Pac 12 and two in the NFL - Dan mentored countless athletes with "unique, effective, and memorable" methods. He brought passion, discipline, and an unwavering love and knowledge of the game to every sideline, locker room, and field he stepped on. Yet his greatest legacy lives beyond football. Dan was a man guided by values instilled in him from an early age, living by his mother's words: "It's a hell of a life if you don't weaken." He poured those values - loyalty, love, honesty, perseverance, and kindness- into every role he embraced: coach, husband, father, brother and friend. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by those he cherished: his wife, Debbie; his children, Ryan, Tara, Jessica, Rachel, Adrian, and Matt; his sisters, Gina and Julia; and his grandchildren, Collins, Kennedy, Ava and Owen. Whether gathered around the dinner table, trading stories on the sidelines, or enjoying quiet time at home, Dan's deep pride and joy in his family was ever-present. He leaves behind not just a legacy of athletic excellence, but a lifetime of meaningful relationships and unforgettable moments. Those who knew him will remember a man who gave his all - with humility, excellence, commitment and boundless love.

I am so sorry that I never met Danny, as his dad and my dad were first cousins. He sounds like someone my dad would have loved to have known and cheered on. I send my deepest condolences to all of you, his family. May God give you comfort.

A humble man with a huge heart and a true love of football, family and friends. When we were at G-Prep, I admired his work ethic and dedication to his family, school and friends. Danny left us way too early, but GOD needed a great coach and a mentor for HIS TEAM! Never forgotten and definitely remembered! RIP brother!

So sad to hear this news. Dan Cozzetto had such a profound impact on my life and was the best o-line coach I ever had. His lessons still ring true, even to this day. I tell my wife and kids "if you are not 5 minutes early you are late". For all of you that don´t know that´s what every one of his players would call Cozzetto time.
Thanks, Coach for transforming a skinny defensive lineman into the player I became. You saw what I could be, even before I could see it in myself.
RIP Coach

Danny Cozzetto wow where do you start there are a million stories. We could talk about going fishing at Elk river reservoir. We could talk about going to Spokane and getting fed by Shirley ( Mom ) as we called her.
We could talk about The Corner Club and Tim Lapano trying to touch the moose head. Or water skiing g at long lake or weight room stories and many more great Danny Cozxetto with tape on his wrist to bench press stories about the winter workouts in the old mrmorial gym basement Many great times with a great guy.
But I want to tell a better story.
I was just a punk kid JC transfer from Phoenix College.
When I flew into Spokane Washington I got off the plane and waiting for me was a 26 year old graduate assistant coach wearing a black watch cap and his father ( Romeos) navy jacket. And sporting the signature Cozzetto mustache and the same smile he has in this photo. He took me to Effues tavern in Lewiston on the way back to the school. We had a giant burger, Danny knew how to recruit a offensive lineman.
He was with me for most of the recruiting weekend told me about the school the program and the team. He loved the team and you could tell it was real not fake or an act if you came to the U of I you were a Vandal and part of his family.
After my visit I flew home canceled the other two recruiting visits I had scheduled and signed letter of intent to be a Vandal. I met my position coach and the head coach and the strength coach all great coaches but Dan Cozzettos commitment to the program and more specifically to his recruits is what git me to Idaho. His commitment to graduating, and none of us really know how long it took was an inspiration to me and changed my life. I am a college graduate in large part due to the leadership and coaching and more importantly friendship from this great man with a huge heart. We all love you and miss you. We were all blessed to be part of your family. Bless you brother you are missed by all who knew you and were fortunate to be a part of the extended Cozzetto family.

Danny was tough, kind, family man and a great human being. He was an excellent football coach. Danny always put his players first - good players, Great Team. On many occasions when football players arrived at ASU he made them into "football players." Many ASU football players owe Coach Cozetto lots of respect for assisting them to become better players. Danny was an excellent recruiter of talent and a great friend. I will truly miss my great friend Danny Cozetto. He affectionately referred to me as Doc.
Rest in peace, my friend.
