I had the honor of playing Tennis with Burton and listening to his thoughts. I enjoyed his company and reading some of his writings. I shall miss him not being around to talk with. I look forward to meeting with him again, on the big tennis court in the Sky. Be well Burton. We shall miss you ALWAYS.

Ellen, Leo, Margery and the family, I hope that through your sorrow at this difficult time, the pain of loss will be replaced by the memories of happier times as you celebrate a life truly well lived. I will always fondly remember the time that I spent with you all so long ago. My sincerest condolences to you all. Susan (Crowdle) Latham

I met Burton and Ellen when I was a student at Georgetown’s, encouraged by a great aunt that I should get to know him and Ellen. It was a rainy night when I landed in Manchester and Burton met me a rain hat pulled down over his face. The next day he immediately put me to work as he and Ellen were refurbishing a rental house in Bradford and he and I awkwardly carried a bathtub down a steep flight of stairs. I wondered what I had gotten my self into. But we remained close and I saw them many times when I lived in New York and frequently visited them at Thanksgiving. I saw them at family events, his parent’s 50 wedding anniversary in Vermont his children’s’ weddings, his mother’s birthdays and more. Burton was a true intellect, passionate about his family, his writing and culture. I will miss him very much.
