Doris Trople Obituary

Doris Trople

March 22, 1927 - June 21, 2025

Doris Trople, 98, of Toledo, Wash., passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at Providence Hospital in Centralia, Wash. Born on March 22, 1927, in Miles City, Mont., she was the daughter of John Delano and Hope Nutter.

Doris was raised in Hysham, Mont., where she went to school and laid the foundation for a life rich in love, hard work, and community involvement. In 1943, she met her sweetheart, Joseph (Ted) Trople. Ted, who hailed from Wasta, S.D., was working in the sugar beet fields of Belgrade, Mont., when Doris first caught his eye. They tied the knot on July 22, 1943, and soon moved to Coos Bay, Ore., due to Ted's Coast Guard posting. Their first son, Ted, was welcomed into the world there in 1945. Two years later, they returned to Montana, settling in Bozeman, where their second son, Gary, was born. The family later moved to the Longview/Kelso area in 1953, where Doris worked as both a nurse's aide and a dental assistant. In 1966, they found their home on a farm in Toledo, Wash., where Doris lived for the next 59 years.

After losing Ted in 1989 to pancreatic cancer, Doris found companionship again and married William (Dub) Puryear in 2002. Together, they spent their winters traveling to Arizona, where they created beautiful memories during their later years.

Doris's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to family and community. She actively participated in several local groups, including the Historical Society, Toledo Lady Lions, and the Winlock Garden Club. Her passions, gardening, cooking, baking, and playing cards, kept her connected with loved ones. She often visited the casinos, always ready to try her luck...which was nearly always on her side.

Renowned for her sharp sense of humor, kind heart, and dedication to her family, Doris leaves behind a legacy filled with love and countless cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Ted Trople, and his wife, Lexie; grandchildren, Korina (Tom), Tracy, Brent (Tia), and Jason (Jodi); and great-grandchildren, Jonah, Tori (Scott), Kassi, Josie (Arlo), Addie, Maggie, Jake, and Karrisa (Alex). She cherished the time spent with her great-great-grandchildren, Tula, Lux, Ashton, Anders, and Ammi. Also surviving her is her sister, Joanna Prescott.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hope Delano; her first husband, Joseph (Ted) Trople; her second husband, William (Dub) Puryear; her son, Gary Trople; her brothers, Gary and Virgil (Pink) Delano; and her grandson, Dallas Trople.

A graveside memorial service to celebrate Doris's life will be held at Toledo Cemetery on Sunday, August 10th, at 12 p.m. Instead of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Historical Society or the Winlock Garden Club.

What a wonderful lady!!! When I was coming out of dental hygiene school she became my mentor in the real world of dentistry. I couldn't have had a better teacher or friend. Thank you Doris.

Doris was one of a kind! The only person I knew like her was my great great aunt Margaret. I remember seeing her and Ted on our trips to Washington and going to Mount Saint Helens when she's come to visit us on the East Coast and her motorhome and so many more memoriesI will say it feels like an end of an era and the world has lost a beautiful soul but she'll be in a better place now and she has lived a life mostof us can only wish to live full of love and happiness. That's the Doris I knew. Condolences to the rest of the family. We will all miss her.
