Leo Preddy Obituary

Leo James "Jimmy" Preddy, 87, of Franklinton passed away peacefully July 1, 2025, at his home.

Jimmy was born on October 20, 1937, in Granville County to the late Leo Clifton Preddy and Annie Lou Hicks Preddy.

Upon graduation from Wilton High School in 1956, Jimmy became a substitute mail carrier for Route 1 Franklinton and farmed tobacco with his father. In 1980, he took over this route full time and left the farm obligations to his sons. In 1995, he retired after thirty-eight years of service and returned to farm duties. Jimmy enjoyed plowing tobacco with his Farmall 140 tractor and bush-hogging every weed he could find. He was also an avid quail and deer hunter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Brassfield Baptist Church. Dr. Curtis Dupree will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Jannie Catherine Harris Preddy and two brothers, Tommy and Johnny Preddy. Survivors include two sons, Glenn Preddy (Joelle) and Jeffrey Preddy (Vickie); five grandchildren, Mary Catherine Montgomery (John), Annie Willis (Cameron), Harrison Preddy (Brooke), Carter Preddy and Jackson Preddy and three great grandchildren, Vivian Montgomery, Janie Montgomery and Leilani Willis.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Brassfield Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brassfield Baptist Church.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Margaret Royster, Tammy Jacobs, and Robin Baxley for their excellent care during his illness.
