Elizabeth Patton Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Patton, beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was a woman whose quiet strength, steady kindness, and gracious heart left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Born in Arkansas, Elizabeth spent her formative years in Indiana before making her home in Elida, Ohio. There, she and her husband, the late Donald Lee Patton, Sr., the love of her life, raised three sons: Donald Jr. (Joni), Ronald, and Douglas (Andrea). Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. She is also survived by her 2 sisters, Francis Flossie Crader, and Alice Marie Lovelady.
Elizabeth worked faithfully for many years in the U.S. Postal Service, ultimately serving as Postmaster for the city ofFort Jennings . She took great pride in her work, and her reliability and warm demeanor made her a treasured part of the community. In her younger years, she found joy in playing cards with friends, tending the garden with Don Sr., and traveling to new places with lifelong friends. Above all, she delighted in spending time with her family, especially doting on her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her home was a welcoming haven, and her presence a steady comfort. She was known for her unfailing kindness and her gentle spirit. Whether it was offering a helping hand or simply a place to rest, Elizabeth was always accommodating, never asking for much, but giving endlessly.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents Amos and Ercel Bates, her husband of 48 years, Donald Sr., her grandson, James Patton, and three brothers: Jim Bates, Alvin Bates, and Howard Bates. Though her absence is deeply felt, her legacy of love, humility, and quiet generosity lives on in her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Joni Patton, her devoted daughter-in-law and caretaker for many years. Joni's unwavering care, compassion and comfort provided Elizabeth with dignity, love and peace throughout her illness, gifts the family will never forget.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Elida, Ohio.
Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral rites on Wednesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to Grand Lake Hospice.
