Paul Quay Obituary

Paul David Quay, age 83, of Belle Center, entered his Heavenly Home and into the arms of Jesus on Sunday evening, July 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the peace of God's presence and family.
Paul was born on Jan. 10, 1942, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, to the late Ralph Otto and Margaret Emlen (George) Quay. He was welcomed into eternal life by his brother, Robert G. Quay; his sisters, Daisy E. Kendall and his beloved twin, Penny Adams.
On Aug. 23, 1964, Paul was united in marriage to Clara (Friday) Quay of rural St. Marys, Ohio, who faithfully remains to cherish his memory. Words spoken to Clara from Paul: "Our marriage was made in Heaven, and we will be together again for Eternity." He is also survived by their daughter Brittany; sisters: Rose W. Gunckel of Verona, Ohio, Kristine Lee "Kris" Sutterfield of Bellefontaine; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Paul's life was marked by a deep love for both learning and the Lord. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1963, where he shared his gift of music in the university choir. He earned his master's degree +30 hours in education from the University of Akron. He taught geometry and computer science, beginning with four years in Garfield Heights, Ohio, and continuing for 30 years at Solon High School, Solon, Ohio. He also taught at Cleveland State University. During his career at Solon, Paul was heavily involved in the Solon Education Association's teacher contract negotiations. He also served as president, vice-president, building representative, committee chair for the welfare and finance committee. Paul gained teaching experience, along with his twin sister as 4-H advisors of the 4-H Club at Belle Center High School when they were 13 years old. This is where he got his feet wet in helping others learn to help themselves.
While living in the Cleveland area, Paul was a faithful member of Parkside Church in Suburban Cleveland. Following retirement, Paul moved to Belle Center where he attended the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church. He was a former elder, deacon, and taught junior high Sunday school. Paul had a heart for missions supporting missionaries, in Bolivia and Campus Crusade. Paul's support also helped to start the Rivendell Institute at Yale University 30 years ago and continues today to minister to faculty and staff.
Paul found joy in gardening, yard work, and reading. He also enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams – the Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Guardians and most recently the Indiana Fever.
A celebration of Paul's life and faith will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church, 202 Walnut St. Belle Center, with Pastor Ted Dennis officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 12 noon until 2pm. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Logan County Weekday Christian Education, PO Box 245, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311 – continuing Paul's legacy of spiritual investment in the next generation.
