John "Pops" Bancroft, age 77, of Joliet passed away Friday, June 27, 2025 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. He was born February 18, 1948 in Decatur, the son of Hubert Jr. and Josephine McCallum (Brown) Bancroft. John married Reba Jones on October 16, 1971 in Daytona Beach, FL. John was a chef and a glass factory worker. He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, boating, and going to baseball games. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. John was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1968-1969. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Reba Bancroft of Joliet; three daughters, Stacy (Sean) Presler of New Lenox, Kimberly (Mark) Bancroft of Manteno, and Christy Bancroft of Joliet; two sisters, Geri Egizio of Springfield and Cindy Brown of Joliet; one brother, Jim Bancroft of Decatur; four grandchildren, Jonathan Presler, Connor Presler, Dawson Bancroft, and Preston Bancroft; and friend Mary Irvin of AR. John is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Randy Bancroft. Inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the Manteno American Legion. Arrangements by Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Manteno. Memorials may be made to family wishes. Please sign his guestbook at www.clancygernon.com.
