Age 84, formerly of Crest Hill and Custer Park, IL, Sharon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at Serenity Estates in Morris, IL. She was born June 17, 1941, in Joliet, IL, the beloved daughter of Orvil and Irene (née Hlavinka) Trueblood. She shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Willie Raymond Carter, until his passing in 2019. Their devotion to one another was a true blessing and a cherished example of lasting love.
Sharon dedicated her career as a counselor at Stateville Corrections Facility, where she faithfully served for 25 years before retiring. Outside of work, she found joy in traveling and bird watching, but nothing brought her greater happiness than her family, who were always her top priority. She especially cherished the many years spent at their home on the Kankakee River, where countless memories were made with those she loved most.
Sharon is survived by her children, Nancy (Tony) Gurnitz of Wilmington, IL, Karen (Wayne) Johnstone of Mayfield, KY, Kris (Jim) Lukancic of Channahon, IL, and daughter-in-law, Karen Carter of TX; five grandchildren, Eric Gurnitz, Stacey (Eric) Cacia, Jennifer (Matthew) Wisniewski, Kari Lukancic, and Kaley Lukancic; and seven great-grandchildren, Kayla, Delia, Grayson, Jacob, Levi, Presley, and Maxine. She was lovingly preceded in death by her husband, Willie; her parents; and her son, Mark.
A visitation will be held at R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jan Chandler officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington, IL.
