Mary Jo Pool Obituary

Mary Jo Pool, 86, Monticello, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at IU Health White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.

She was born on May 5, 1939, at home in Idaville to the late Dudley R. and Margaret (Miller) Heiny. On Aug.18, 1957, she married Robert "Bob" Dean Pool at the Monticello United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on March 23, 1992.

Mary Jo was a 1957 graduate of Monticello High School. Over the years she had worked at Sears, was a bookkeeper for Pool Excavating and completed taxes at H & R Block. But, she will be best remembered as serving two terms as White County Auditor, following in her dad's footsteps.

She was a life-long member of the Monticello United Methodist Church and served on various committees. She had been a member of the Eastern Star, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Merry Mixers Home Extension Club and Red Hats. She enjoyed traveling, antiquing, reading, playing cards, especially Bridge, and family genealogy research. She enjoyed socializing and getting to know about people and their families. She never knew a stranger and made everyone feel special. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five children, Rodney "Rod" (Jill) Pool, Brad (Nita) Pool, Pat (Janet) Pool, Gina Spence, Jill (Jeff) Guingrich; two siblings, June McCutchan and C.W. "Bill" Heiny; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bob, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gregory Spence.

Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Visitation will also take place one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Monticello United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Beeks officiating.
