June 30, 1947 - June 27, 2025
Gilbert, South Carolina - Cy David "Mudcat" Grant, 77, passed away on June 27, 2025, in Gilbert, South Carolina.
Born on June 30, 1947, in Clarkesville GA, a proud graduate of North Habersham HS & University of South Carolina. A devoted Gamecocks fan throughout his life.
Cy served his country honorably as an Army Captain '68-72. Following his military service, he pursued a career as an entrepreneur & later worked at Gilbert HS.
He was a longtime member of RHBC & found joy in college football, reading, golf, & mowing his lawn. Above all else, Cy cherished time spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nell C. Grant; brother Joseph (Jean); daughters Wendy G. Cooper (Billy) & Susan Kay G. Baker (Blue); 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grands with 2 more on the way.
Cy was preceded in death by parents Joseph "Cy" A & Ethylene D Grant, as well as his brother Jeffery T. "Jeff" Grant.
Cy leaves behind a legacy of love & laughter that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

Dear Nell and "Mudcat´s" Family,
Please accept my most sincere condolences with the passing of Mudcat (hard to say David after all these years). He was such a great friend to so many and even though he was younger than me, he earned the respect of everyone as a son, brother, father, family man, friend, teammate, businessman and in the USC community. He will be missed by all but the memories are everlasting. And, I do wish to say I am one of the fortunate ones who was blessed to have Mudcat and his brother, Jeff, as teammates and friends. God Bless them and all of you.

So sorry to hear this , I just moved back to the Habersham area and was hoping to see my old friend. Played football with him in high school, just such a shock. May you rest in peace my friend. It’s been well over 50 years since I have seen you! Thoughts and prayer for all of his family as you move forward in life!
