Lombardi Carter
January 6, 1942 - July 20, 2025
Claire Lee Lombardi Carter, aged 83, passed away on July 20, 2025, in Grass Valley, CA. Born on January 6, 1942, in Denver, Colorado. Clairie was a beacon of kindness and creativity, known for her genuine spirit, quick laugh and nurturing character.
Clairie grew up in Oakland, California. When she was fourteen, she met her husband, George at a youth group dance and they were inseparable from that point on. She graduated from Castlemont High School and married George in 1961. They moved to Sacramento and then Concord, having a daughter in each location. After 25 years in Roseville, CA they settled in Nevada County to be near their daughter and grandsons. Clairie was a natural and gifted homemaker. Many of her daughters' friends and young people Clairie worked with considered her home their home. Clairie had also worked as a bank teller, Tupperware lady, and medical assistant at the Sacramento Blood Bank.
Her commitment to family and community shone brightly through her extensive volunteer work with organizations such as the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, where she dedicated many years both as a participant and a mentor. She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a volunteer for the March of Dimes, and president of the Pine Tree Quilt Guild.
A gifted gardener, quilter, seamstress, ravioli and sauce maker, Clairie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a master craftswoman. Her love of impeccably decorating her Victorian home and caring for a series of fluffy cats brought happiness not only to her, but also to those around her. A lifelong dream was realized in 2019 when her daughter, Dawn arranged for a family trip to Vicalvi, Italy, the town that Clairie's family immigrated from.
Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Albert Carter; her mother, Jeanne Odermatt; step-father, Elwood Odermatt; father, George Lombardi; and sisters, Joann Lombardi Mitchell and Judy Lombardi Broz. She leaves behind a loving family: daughters Tamara Carter Haas and Dawn Carter; son-in-law Paul Haas; grandsons Paul Carter Haas and Ryne Haas, wife Silvyanna; great-grandson Pierce Haas; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is sincerely grateful for the loving care of Cascades of Grass Valley and Rondha's After Care for the past two years.
In honor of Claire's wishes, there will be no public service. The family plans to hold a private celebration of her life at a later date. Claire's memory will forever resonate in the lives of those she touched.
