With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Darlene L. Alva, 62, who left us peacefully on Friday, February 28, 2025, at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Born on December 29, 1962, to the late William D. Sparks and Nila Bockmon, who survives, Darlene's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a spirit that will be dearly missed.
Darlene's journey began in Marion, where she attended Marion High School, laying the foundation for her future. For over 25 years, she dedicated herself to her role as a production worker at Chrysler, showcasing her strong work ethic and commitment to her craft. Those who knew Darlene understood her passion for life's simple pleasures. She found joy in shopping-particularly through QVC-and frequently delighted in the beauty of her garden, filled with vibrant flowers that mirrored her bright personality.
Among her many interests, Darlene had a special fondness for the holiday season, cooking delicious meals for her loved ones, and indulging her playful side by trying her luck with the lottery. She was a devoted fan of soap operas. Darlene's adventurous spirit led her to explore beautiful destinations, including Mexico, Las Vegas, and Texas, and she relished the thrill of riding motorcycles, embracing the wind and freedom they offered.
Throughout her life, Darlene's affection for her family and friends stood out. With a heart full of love and a spirit that was fiercely independent, she was known for her stubbornness-often in the most endearing way. Her caring nature left a lasting impact on those who knew her, and her laughter could light up a room. Darlene also held a special place in her heart for her granddogs, whose playful antics brought her immense joy.
Darlene is survived by her mother, Nila Bockmon; son, AJ Bradley, Marion; daughter, Susan (Tanner Sullivan) Alva, Marion; brother, William E. Sparks, Marion; aunts and uncles, Betty and Burl White, Marion, and Dorothy and Stan Bradford, Fishers; ex-husband, Mark Alva; cousins, Brett and Scott Tipple; and granddogs, Beans, Titan, Sadie, Dougie, Cooper, Annie, Rudle, Buns, Shoppy, and Koko. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and blood donors at IU Health Methodist Hospital and Marion Health for all of their care and support.
She was preceded in death by her father, William D. Sparks; step-father, Harold Bockmon; grandparents, Dorothy and Herman Bartlett, and Gladys and Paul Sparks; and aunt, Bernita Tipple.
