Isabelle Duke Obituary
August 17, 1927 - July 6, 2025
DUKE, Isabelle Brooks, 97, died peacefully, July 6, 2025, at home. A life-long Goochland resident, she was born to Ernest and Laura Attkisson Brooks and was the widow of George W. Duke after 55 years of marriage. Grateful for her life are her descendants: daughters Linda (Roland) and Kathleen (David), 6 grandsons, and 10 great-grandchildren. She loved history and was a charter member of the Goochland Historical Society and of the Goochland Woman's Club. She was also a member of the Louisa and Hanover Historical Societies, the DAR, UDC, Jamestowne Society, Huguenot Society, and was a Master Gardener. She was Clerk of Goochland County School Board for more than 25 years.
Services will be held Sunday, July 13th at 3:00pm at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1981 Cardwell Road, Oilville VA, where she was a life-long member, serving her church in many capacities, 50 years as church historian. Visitation will begin at 2 pm at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Duke family plot at Grace Episcopal Church in Goochland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goochland Fire and Rescue.
