Nicolina Goryl, affectionately known to many as "Aunt Nicky," passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the remarkable age of 105. A lifelong resident of Swoyersville, she spent almost 100 of her years in he community she loved dearly.
Born in Swoyersville to Antonina and Guiseppi Monteleone, Nicky lived a life defined by faith and service. She worked for many years as a seamstress at the United Pants Factory in Swoyersville, where she was known for her dedication and craftsmanship.
Aunt Nicky was especially known for her delicious Italian dinners, which she joyfully prepared for loved ones whenever possible. She was deeply humble, grateful and full of kindness — qualities that touched all who knew her. Her strong Catholic faith and devotion to her parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Swoyersville, were central to her life.
Nicky was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 55 years, Joseph, and her siblings, Mary Scozzari, Thomas Monteleone and Gabe Monteleone. Though she had no children of her own, Aunt Nicky was a devoted godmother and cherished Aunt to many, playing a central role in the lives of her extended family.
Her warmth, generosity and unwavering faith will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hughes Street, Swoyersville. Family and Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time. Interment will be in Dennison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lehman-Gregory Funeral Home Inc., 281 Chapel St., Swoyersville.
