ALBANY - Carmela Rose Burke, lovingly known as "Mel," passed away peacefully, at home, on June 3, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family. She was 87 years young.
Mel was the beloved wife of the late Ronald J. Burke. Born on March 27, 1938, she was the cherished daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Russo; and the dear sister of the late Joseph Russo. She is also remembered lovingly by her sister-in-law, Louella Russo.
Mel is survived by her loving children, Ronald Burke and his wife Holly, Timothy Burke and his wife Alice, and Susan Brown and her husband Ernest. She was the adored grandmother of Wendy Lesson, Whitney Gitman, Emery Burke, Brandon Dillon, Eric Dillon, Jack Burke, Jessie Burke, and Timothy Burke. She was also blessed with two great-grandsons, Logan and Kayden.
She leaves behind several beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was close to several of her neighbors and many family friends, whose companionship meant so much to her and her family.
A lifelong parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church, Mel's deep faith and gentle spirit touched all who knew her. Her life was rooted in devotion to her family, her faith, and her friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mel's family Thursday, June 5, 2025, 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, N.Y., 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Mel's Funeral Mass will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Blessed Sacrament Church, 607 Central Ave. (Rev. John Bradley Way), Albany, N.Y. 12206.
