Elizabeth Macris Obituary

Macris, Elizabeth
EAST GREENBUSH - Elizabeth (House) Macris, 86, of East Greenbush, peacefully entered eternal rest at home, surrounded by her loving family, on May 31, 2025. Liz, as she was fondly known to most, was born on the May 17, 1939, in Hornell, N.Y. She was a woman of unparalleled compassion, kindness and strength. She leaves a beautiful legacy of healing, spirituality and love.
Liz embarked on her journey as an angel of care in 1961, when she graduated with a degree in Nursing from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. She served Rensselaer County as a Public Health Nurse for 19 years, where she treated every patient with dignity. Following her career in public health, Liz ran a patient discharge program that she developed at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. She founded the Parish Nurse Program at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Troy, and was a local leader in the Certified Healing Touch community. Her pioneering spirit and drive were commendable.
Liz treasured the simple joys in life. Some of her favorite times were lakeside camp fires with family and friends, playing Canasta, going to baseball games, and watching fireworks. She loved travel, gardening, and watercolor painting became her tranquil pastime. Her signature dish was leg-of-lamb, served traditionally each Easter dinner. She held a fondness for the stunning landscapes of Southern California, Sedona, Ariz., and Boulder, Colo., which she frequently visited.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, James B Macris; her caring daughter, Amy Macris and husband, Steve Shannon; and her devoted son, Jim Macris and wife, Angela Lanci-Macris. Her glowing spirit lives on in the heart of her cherished granddaughter, Hannah DeWeerd, as well as her many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved sister, Marjorie James; and by her parents, George and Mildred House,
A Celebration of Liz's life and sharing of memories will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in the Hope Lutheran Church, Troy, N.Y. (formerly St. Timothy's), where she was a longstanding leader and respected elder.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Southern Poverty Law Center" at https://everloved.com/life-of/elizabeth-house-macris/donate/ or St. Paul's Center for women and children at https://stpaulscenter,com
Both causes were very dear to her heart. In this way, we continue to honor Elizabeth's dedication towards nurturing and loving others.
