SCHROON LAKE - Dr. Robert "Bob" Edward Williams of Schroon Lake, N.Y., son of the late Guy Williams and Ellen McNamee Oare; and husband of Shelley B. Dixon-Williams, passed away on May 14, 2025, after a brief illness.
Bob was born and raised in Gloversville, N.Y. After high school he went on to earn three degrees from the University of Albany, Albany, N.Y., including a BA in social studies, an MA in political science and an Ed.D. in educational administration, with specialization in higher education management and policy studies.
Public service was a large part of who Bob was, and he was proud to have served the people of New York State. After teaching social studies for two years, Bob went on to a nearly 30-year career with the NYS Education Department's Office of Higher Education, retiring in 1995.
Bob also served his state and country as an officer in the New York Army National Guard.
After his retirement, Bob concentrated his time on another of his passions, the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, camping and hiking all over the Adirondack Park with his wife, Shelley. He wrote a book on the Adirondack Lean-to and published it in 2020.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by brothers, Allan (Dick) Williams, Larry Williams; sister, Joan Boyd; and infant granddaughter, Kayleigh.
He is survived by his wife, Shelley B. Dixon-Williams (Schroon Lake); daughter, Lara Williams (Saco, Maine); stepdaughters, Jennifer Vickery (Matthew), Nicole Perrault; stepson, Christopher Perrault (Megan); grandchildren, Anthony (Chelsea), Victoria (Corey), Leo, Gavin, Rylan, Brynn, Amelia, Erik; and great-grandson, Austin; sister, Sharon Williams (Redondo Beach, Calif.). In addition, Bob is survived by his former wife, Susanne Williams; and many cousins and family members.
A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at the Community Church in Schroon Lake, N.Y.
