COLONIE - Gail A. Bahlatzis, 88, of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born in Skoura, Sparta, Greece, and was the daughter of the late Vasili and Eleni Anagnostopoulos. Gail was the co-owner of the Empress Diner in Colonie, where she worked side-by-side with her beloved husband of 70 years, Danny Bahlatzis. She loved gardening, baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the glue that kept her family together, and her love had a profound impact on everyone's lives. She will be greatly missed.
Gail is survived by her husband, Danny, a Korean War Army veteran. She is the sister of Vasiliki Vardoulias and the late Efstratios Anagnostopoulos. She is survived by her children, V. Rev. Protopresbyter Dr. Michael (Kim) Bahlatzis MD., Lt. Col/USAF/Ret., William (Susan) Bahlatzis LPN, and Debbie Bahlatzis (Michael) Kenneally. She is the cherished YiaYia to Jonathan, Angela, David, Ashley, Jacob and Jorge, Paige and Isabella; and great-grandmother of Alexis, Cassandra and Sophia. She is the aunt of Michael Spiro, Billy, Dimitrios, Vasili, Fr. Dionysios and the late Dimitrios. She is also survived by multiple cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd., Albany. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
