William McPhee Obituary

William J. McPhee, of North Revere, formerly of Everett, passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2025.at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family at Melrose Wakefield Hospital.

Born on August 22nd, 1943, in Everett, Bill was the cherished son of the late James F. and Mary E. (Clinton) McPhee. He was the beloved brother of June Marie (McPhee) Moloney and her husband Ron of West Peabody, and James F. McPhee and his wife Janice of Everett.

A proud graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1962, Bill went on to serve his country with honor in the U.S. Navy Air Reserve, based in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He was called to active duty aboard the USS Enterprise during its 1965 deployment to Vietnam. As a plane captain for carrier wing VA-36, he was responsible for the inspection and preparation of aircraft for flight. His service in the Naval Air Command was a source of deep pride throughout his life, and he wore his VA-36 cap with honor for many years.

Following his military service, Bill dedicated over 40 years to the United States Postal Service, delivering mail in Winthrop and Malden. A tireless worker, he often held second jobs, including office cleaning and gas station work, always embodying a strong work ethic. After retiring from the U.S.P.S., Bill continued serving his community as a beloved school crossing guard at the Ferryway School in Malden. Though he had no children of his own, he cared for countless children with the warmth and protectiveness of a devoted guardian. He was deeply loved by the children and families he watched over — and the feeling was mutual.

Bill will be fondly remembered by his siblings, June Moloney and James McPhee; his in-laws Ron Moloney and Janice McPhee; as well as many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends from the VFW Post, American Legion Post, and Eastside Social Club in Malden.

The McPhee family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers, nurses, and physicians at Life Care Center of Stoneham and Melrose Wakefield Hospital for their dedicated care and support in Bill’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to a veterans’ organization of your choice — a tribute befitting a man who served his country with unwavering pride.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a graveside service with military honors on Thursday, April 10th, at 11 am in Glenwood Cemetery, Washington Ave, Everett.
