KEN SCHULENBURG Obituary

KEN SCHULENBURG Kenneth Harold Schulenburg, 81 left this world behind at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at home and went to his heavenly home. He was born June 14, 1944 in Tipton County, Indiana to Orville Alvin Elmer and Esther Emaline (Beck) Schulenburg, the second of five children. He was baptized at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tipton and attended Emanuel Lutheran School through eighth grade. He attended Tipton High School graduating in 1962. He attended Purdue University and obtained an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology in 1966 and went to work for RCA Consumer Electronics in Indianapolis. He continued his schooling while working at RCA and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical Engineering Technology in 1972. On September 18, 1971 he married the love of his life, Patricia Jean McDonald of Detroit, Michigan, a marriage that lasted for 54 years at the time of his death. He purchased a small farm in Indianapolis and began farming. In 1979, he returned to Tipton County and purchased a slightly larger farm in Tipton County. He continued working at RCA for 34 years, where he participated in the development of satellite TV receivers, and helping develop Dish TV. After RCA moved the engineering to Mexico, he went to work for Delco Electronics in Kokomo, Indiana. After leaving Delco he went back to RCA. Later, after leaving RCA again, he went to work for his brother as a Carquest car parts counter salesman, made deliveries and had an outside sales route. Then, after the auto parts business, he returned to Delco Electronics, (Delphi Electronics) After 25+ years of not playing the trombone, he returned to Tipton and joined the Tipton Community Band. He then also joined the Brass Works sextet, recording two CD's, "Stuff We Can Play" and "With a Little Help From Our Friends". Ken is survived by his wife Patricia, a son Gilbert of Tipton, a daughter, Sarah of Tipton and three grandchildren, Matthew, Ada, and Emery. He is also survived by his siblings Evelyn (Carl) Benning of Avon, Indiana, a brother Edgar of Tipton and a brother Carl (Linda) of New Palestine, 12 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Esther Schulenburg, two infant sons, a brother, a sister-in-law and a great nephew. Funeral services for Ken will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Robb Roloff presiding. Visitation will be from 4:00 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Young-Nichols Funeral Home is honored to assist the Schulenburg family at this time.
