Mark O'Connell Obituary
2/19/1954 - 12/05/2024
Mark M. O'Connell, 70, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, passed away at his home on December 5, 2024.
Born in Ithaca, NY, Mark was raised in Ottawa Hills, where he attended Ottawa Hills Schools. Mark was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Williams College with a BA in English, and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Mark was a Board Certified Cardiologist who practiced in Boston, Philadelphia, and New Jersey.
Mark was predeceased by his father, Maurice D. O'Connell. He is survived by his beloved children, Benjamin, Peter, and Dixie; his mother, Joan L. O'Connell; his four siblings, David (Katherine), Ann (Edward Toth), Leila, and Ellen (David Stone); his ex-wife, Ruby Laufer; and eight nieces and nephews.
Mark will be remembered for his amazing wit, brilliant mind, and fierce independence.
A memorial service will be held on December 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Michael's in the Hills, 4718 Brittany Road, Toledo, OH.
In lieu of traditional remembrances, the family asks that you make a donation in Mark's honor to support Parkinson's research.

Mark, Ruby and Ben were neighbors of mine in Charlestown, Ma a lifetime ago. Mark was one of a sly wit. Many good memories of Mark and his young family in the courtyard common to our properties. I visited on a couple occasions to Little Silver also. Good guy! Sorry to hear of his passing and illness.Steve Kuzma
