Charles Anthony Blackburn, 89, a lifelong resident of Greensburg, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at Greensburg Care Center. He was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Greensburg, a son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Firster) Blackburn. Charles was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Greensburg. He was the oldest Eagle Scout of his church. Charles was a veteran, having served in the Army during the Korean War, and also serving in the reserve. Prior to retirement, he worked as a senior scientist for Westinghouse. After retirement, he loved traveling and helping his neighbors at Redmont Place. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen H. Blackburn; sister, Nancy Kiehl Thomas; brother, Dr. Lawrence F. Blackburn; son-in-law, Jim Ailstock; and special friend, Ruth Pulka. Surviving are his daughters, Kim Forsyth (Brad), Amy Blackburn and Dr. Pam Ailstock; grandson, Gregory Forsyth (girlfriend, Kandis Snyder); sister-in-law, Kathy Blackburn; also, several nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday Dec. 20, 2021, at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. A memorial service for Charles will follow at 2 p.m.. with the Rev. Kevin Haley officiating. Interment will be private. I knew Charlie from Tri-City Meals On Wheels he was a very dedicated driver for meals on wheels.He enjoyed delivering the meals and talking with seniors he delivered too.My sympathy to his family.
