Adam John Karafinski, 91, of East Vandergrift, passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, in Belair Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell. Born Nov. 13, 1930, in East Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Adam Vincent Karafinski and Helen (Zengota) Karafinski. Adam was a 1950 graduate of Vandergrift High School, where he served as class treasurer. Adam proudly served our country with the Army during the Korean War, stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He worked as a molder for Wean United for many years, then as a security guard for Cauley Security. Adam was a member of our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, the Vandergrift Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 566, and the PNA Club in East Vandergrift. He started the PNA Sunday Night Bowling League, beginning at a bowling alley in Apollo, and later at Lee's Lanes. In his later years, Adam took up golfing, and was a member of the Vandergrift Golf League.He and wife Sylvia loved dancing, especially to polka music. In addition to his parents, Adam was preceded in death by his brother, Casmier Karafinski; and his sisters, Irene Uskuraitis and Mary Rose Kaminski. Adam is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sylvia Z. (Zelonka) Karafinski; son, Kurt (Debbie) Karafinski, of Glenshaw; grandchildren, Christopher and Kiersten Karafinski, both of Glenshaw; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, in the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, East Vandergrift, with Father Vincent J. Zidek as celebrant.Interment in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, with military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
