Edmund Minkus Obituary

Edmund J. Minkus, 92, of West Newton, passed away into the loving arms of his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, Monday, Sept. 27, 2021. Born Oct. 29, 1928, in West Newton, he was the son of the late Anthony and Catherine (Patley) Minkus. Jesus and salvation were the most important part of his life. He was a fervent prayer warrior and enjoyed spending time and sharing stories with his family. He honorably served his country in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a very active blood donor through the American Red Cross. He loved baseball, especially Stan "the Man" Musial. In June 1988, Edmund retired from the West Newton Post Office. The Post Office was more than a job to him; it was one of his passions. He was a fan of Scrabble, crossword puzzles and "Jeopardy!" He was very proud of his Polish heritage, loved polkas and enjoyed watching "Molly B." His many qualities included patience, kindness, generosity and integrity. He is survived by his children, Gregory (Ethel) Minkus, of Webster, Teresa Vitigoy, of West Newton, and Mark (Elizabeth) Minkus, of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Christine (Rob), Gregory and Michael Minkus, Michelle (Doug) Trenk, Frank (Abby) Vitigoy, Sarah (Bo) Griffith, Danielle, Hannah and Caitlin Minkus, David (Angela) Seiple, Kevin (Sara) Seiple, Scott (Anna) Seiple and Joel Fox; and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alexis, Lily, Dale and Saben Vitigoy, Isaac and Ruthann Trenk, Adalynn Griffith, Xzavier Farabaugh, Peighton Minkus, Koda and Hermilee Minkus, and Emma, Graylyn and Abram Seiple. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Harden Minkus; infant daughter, Cecelia Minkus; son, Steven A. Minkus; and daughters, Mary Catherine Fox, Ruth Ann Prosser and Marcia Jo Minkus-Mills. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with his son, Mark Minkus, officiating. Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery with Pastor Tim S. Lewis officiating. Following the interment service, military honors will be conducted by the Army and the Perryopolis VFW Post 7023. A repast meal will follow at Hoss's Steak and Sea House in Belle Vernon. At the request of the family, everyone attending the visitation and services is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Red Cross, www.redcross.org.
