Janet (Hixenbaugh) Szalai, 85, of Allegheny Township, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021. She was born and raised in Harwick and graduated from Springdale High School. Janet enjoyed being with her family and friends. She especially loved travel, the outdoors, and watching the Pittsburgh sports teams. Janet had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a fantastic cook and had many family and friends picnics and parties throughout the years. Janet will be greatly missed by all. Surviving her are daughters, Diane Szalai, of Wisconsin, and Sharon Szalai, of Virginia; son, Craig Szalai, of New York; and two sisters, Sharlene Mickelic, of Harwick, and Linda (Irvin) Snyder, of Cranberry Township. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery Szalai; and her parents, Ab and Goldie Hixenbaugh. Per her wishes, her services and burial are private. Funeral arrangements were supervised by the CHARLES B. JARVIE SPRINGDALE FUNERAL HOME INC., 801 Pittsburgh St. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter, Salvation Army or veteran's organizations. www.jarviefuneralhome.com.

It was a joy caring for Janet she made me smile every day she will be dearly missed by everyone. I know I will miss by sassy little friend every day she will always be my sunshine

It was a joy to care for her at Atria. She was spunky, had a great sense of humor and brought excitement with her. She is missed already!

We absolutely loved Janet and throughly enjoyed conversations and joking with her. We often would joke and she would make fun of me for dancing. I miss seeing her smiling face.
