Janice Stubbs Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janice May (Zellers) Stubbs, the beloved matriarch of the Stubbs family. Also lovingly known to us as Madre, Ma'am, and Mighty Mam. Surrounded by her family, Janice's courageous battle with cancer came to an end on Monday, Sept. 8, 2025. She was 88. Born in Jeannette on May 9, 1937, the daughter of the late Oscar and Sarah (Faroux) Zellers. She graduated from Jeannette High School in 1955 and was then married to Clyde R. Stubbs for 23 years before his death in Feb., 1978. Janice started working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1978. In April of 1984, she was appointed postmaster of the Pleasant Unity post office in Pleasant Unity. She retired from the postal service in 2003 and moved to Nashville, TN, to be with family. She was a fiercely dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind four children, Jeff Stubbs (Colleen) of Erie, PA, Terry Stubbs of Nokomis, FL, Lynne Leersnyder (Mike) of Nashville, TN, and Kelly Dunn (Tom Kelly) of Sarasota, FL; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Cassie, Ali, Jack, Connor, Eva, Max, Aubrey, and Natalie; four great-grandchildren, Odessa, Adalena, Amir, and Laith; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Janice was a devout Catholic whose greatest joy and achievement was her large, close-knit family. She had a generous heart, always ready to help those in need. She was our biggest cheerleader and our constant supporter. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at St. John Baptist de La Salle Church (494 Athena Dr., Delmont), followed by a burial ceremony in Twin Valley Memorial Park (483 Athena Dr., Delmont). A celebration of life reception will follow. Details will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

My deepest condolences for your loss. I was a classmate of Janice and a co-worker with Clyde at Westinghouse. They were a wonderful couple and both were special people. I was blessed to have them in my life and I send prayers for their family to have peace at this time.
