Marie Elizabeth Hancsak, 90, of Swansboro, N.C., passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, at the Cottages of Swansboro, with her family by her side. She was born July 20, 1931, in Westmoreland County. Marie retired after 25 years of service with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, primarily with the Veterans Afairs Office in Pittsburgh. She then relocated to Palm Beach County, Fla., and volunteered at JFK Medical Center and Living Word Lutheran Church before moving to North Carolina with her son and daughter-in-law. Marie loved to spend time with her family and friends and to cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her last words were "Here We Go Steelers!" She is survived by a son, William "Bill" Hancsak (Karen), of Swansboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Teresa Moon (Sean), of Utah, Aaron Hancsak, of Utah, and Andrew Hancsak, of Florida; great-grandchildren, Ryker and Ciara; and sister and brother, Arlene Miller and John "Buddy" Palicka, both of Pennsylvania. Marie was preceded in death by her father and mother; husband, Andrew Hancsak; son, John Hancsak; and a sister, LaVerne Johnston. In lieu of flowers, as Marie was an avid sports fan, donations can be made to the South Florida Collegiate League, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), at southfloridacollegiateleague.com. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at Grandview Cemetery in North Versailles Township, followed by a celebration of life. Arrangements are by JONES FUNERAL HOME-SWANSBORO. Online condolences may be made to www.jonesfh.org.line
