Mary Liska Obituary

Mary Ann Liska, 100, of Windsor Locks, CT, and formerly of Granby, CT, beloved wife for 67 years of the late John Joseph Liska, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025, at Hartford Hospital. Born in East Deer Township, Mary Ann and her family moved to Tarentum when she was just six months old. Mary was a graduate of Tarentum High School, Class of 1943. After graduation she took a position at a local bank in the bookkeeping department. Mary Ann was quickly noticed for her attention to detail and moved through several positions, later becoming the secretary to the president of the bank. She left her work at the bank to raise her three children, but after they all were in school, she returned to the same bank 15 years later and worked in the loan department. Mary Ann continued to work another 20 years, retiring as a loan officer in the same branch of the same bank that she started at when she was 18 years old. After marrying her husband, John, the young couple moved to Lower Burrell, where they lived for 52 years and raised their three children. In 2007, Mary Ann and John moved to Granby, CT, to be closer to their daughter, Becky, and her family. A devout Christian throughout her life, Mary Ann and her family were active members of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brackenridge for many years. Mary Ann was a member of the church's Altar Guild, sang in the choir, and was a member of many groups and committees within the life of the church. While living in Granby, CT, Mary Ann and John attended St. John Lutheran Church in Westfield, MA. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and embroidery and made sweaters, afghans, and clothes for her family and friends. She won many ribbons for her knitting by hand and knitting on machines and was recognized nationally by the Herrschners Catalog for her work. After retiring to Granby, CT, Mary Ann enjoyed going to events at the Granby Senior Center, dancing with her husband, and playing cards. She leaves three children, Timothy Liska of Monrovia, MD, Daniel Liska and his wife, Cindy, of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Becky Bossi and her husband, William, of East Granby, CT; seven grandchildren, Heather Liska of Boston, MA, Brian Liska of Columbus, OH, Kristin Mowery of Columbus, OH, Megan Hicks and her husband, Greg, of Amelia Island, FL, John Liska of Austin, TX, Matthew Bossi of East Granby, CT, and Justin Bossi of Monrovia, MD; and three great-grandchildren, Grey Liska and Corrine Liska of Worthington, OH, and Rylan Mowery of Columbus, OH. She was predeceased by a sister, Irene Pozel; and a daughter-in-law, Pamela Liska. Her family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 6, at DUSTER FUNERAL HOME, 347 East 10th Ave., Tarentum, PA. Burial will follow in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights, PA. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite #4b, Southington, CT 06489, or by visiting www.alz.org/ct.
