Mary Perry Obituary

Mary Vaughan Nixon Perry, formerly of Sandy Cross, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19th at her home in Suffolk, VA. She was eighty eight years old.

Mary was a devoted wife to William Stanford Perry for 64 years. She was active in First Baptist Church, serving in the nursery for many years. She loved painting, ceramics, reading, art and travel. She also enjoyed organizing trips to New York and Pennsylvania for her family, friends and church. Mary was a graduate and valedictorian of her class at Hobbsville High School and subsequently graduated from Chowan College. She worked at Nansemond Suffolk Academy for close to 25 years, serving as the assistant to several heads of schools during that time.

Mary is survived by her husband, William Stanford Perry, and their two children Elaine Denson (husband Kevin), and Renee Andrews (husband Robert) and four grandchildren: Luke and David (Elaine) & Twyla and Zoey (Renee). She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Gregory Nixon of Gates County.

A funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 23rd at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church Suffolk, 237 North Main Street, with visitation at the same location at 1:00 PM, prior to the funeral. A graveside burial will follow the service at Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family would like to thank Warm Hearts Homecare and Canese Ricks, for their loving care of Mrs. Perry in her final days. R.W.
