Melba Harman Obituary

Melba R. Harman, 67, of White, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, in the Independence Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Dec. 30, 1957, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Melvin A. and Mabel R. Traugh Kantorik. Melba was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Area High School with the class of 1975. She worked in housekeeping for the Donegal Holiday Inn. She liked to crochet, but her real love was caring for animals. She cared for many dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, and various other types of animals for many years. Melba will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her loving family; her children, Jada Shepherd and husband Donald, of Mt. Pleasant; Thomas Kalp and wife Mary, of Confluence; and David Harman, of White; her wonderful grandchildren, Dennis Helmick and wife Kayla, Cody Helmick, Ethan Brown, Jaret Brown, Kendal Shepherd, Luke Shepherd, and Jadon Shepherd; her great-grandchild, Flora Helmick; her former husband, David C. Harman, of Mt. Pleasant; and her brother, Marvin D. Kantorik, and wife Mary, of Acme. Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, in MARK C. BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., at the corner of Route 711 and 146 Municipal Building Road, Melcroft (724-455-2310), where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, with Rev. Dr. Marvin C. Watson officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in the Byerly-Freeman Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to an animal rescue shelter of one's choice in memory of Melba R. Harman.
