Spurgeon McIlvaine Obituary

Spurgeon John McIlvaine, 82, of Hempfield Township, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025. He was born on June 20, 1943, in Greensburg, to John and Anna (Ralston) McIlvaine. Spurgeon honorably served overseas as a helicopter mechanic in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he returned home to Greensburg, where he owned and operated the Sunoco gas station on Route 30. He also later worked as a store manager for Gatlin Auto Parts for over 20 years until its closing. Spurgeon was an active member of the Brush Creek Salem UCC, a former member of the Alwine Civic Center, and a proud member of the Greensburg Masonic Center Lodge No. 225 F&AM. He was a classic car enthusiast, loved playing solitaire on his computer, and was a popular attendee of any auction he could find. Spurgeon is survived by his sister, Nancy (Roy) Greene; brother, Donald (Debi) McIlvaine; nieces, Cindy (Scott) Anderson, Tracy (Bill) Haynackie, and Danielle (Chuck) Correll; nephew, David (Liz) McIlvaine; many great-nieces and nephews; and dear friend and caregiver, Jim Ankrom. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, at BASH-NIED-JOBE FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont (724-468-8381), with Pastor Diane Wiley officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Union Cemetery.
