William Wood Obituary

William D. "Bill" Wood Jr., 72, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025. Mr. Wood was born in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late William Donald Wood Sr. and the late Rita T. Drogoski Wood. Mr. Wood was a graduate of Serra Catholic High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree from Penn State University, where he was a member of the wrestling team and Delta Chi Fraternity. He later attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his master's degree in geology. Mr. Wood worked as a geologist for Carolina Technical Services Inc. until his death. Surviving Mr. Wood are his sisters, Karen (Charles) Mesirow of Redwood City, CA, and Anita (Paul) Regan of Boulder Creek, CA; his brother, Brian (Stacy) Wood of Jefferson Hills, PA; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and goddaughter. Previous wife, Leslie Wood; and stepdaughter, Jamie (Matthew) Werling of Florence, SC. Mr. Wood was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of the Penn State Wrestling Boosters Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and researching his family's ancestry. Memorial services to be held in Florence, SC, are being organized for a later date. Mr. Wood will be interred near his parents in Pleasant Hills at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Institute for Justice General Fund, 901 N. Glebe Road, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22203, or Saint Anthony Catholic School, 2536 Hoffmeyer Road, Florence, SC 29501.
